EMFACE for TMJ — from a Neuromuscular Dentist, not a med spa.
EMFACE is now FDA-cleared for the treatment of TMJ dysfunction. At iDental Dilworth, it’s offered by Dr. Kate Sudikoff — an LVI Fellow who treats the jaw, bite, and muscles every day — so the device is guided by a real diagnosis, not just a menu.

Is EMFACE FDA-cleared for TMJ?
Yes. As of August 2025, EMFACE is FDA-cleared for the treatment of TMJ dysfunction. It’s a needle-free, non-surgical treatment that uses synchronized radiofrequency and HIFES muscle stimulation to relax and re-educate the jaw muscles that drive much of TMJ discomfort.
Specifically, EMFACE is FDA-cleared for the relief of symptoms associated with muscle spasm, treatment of TMJ dysfunction and associated pain, muscle re-education, increased local blood flow, and the maintenance or improvement of mandibular range of motion. We describe only these cleared uses — and never promise a guaranteed outcome, because results are individual.

The difference that matters
Same device. A completely different level of care.
TMJ dysfunction isn’t a skin problem — it’s a problem of the bite, the jaw joint, and the muscles that move them. That’s exactly what a neuromuscular dentist is trained to evaluate. Dr. Kate is a Fellow of the Las Vegas Institute (LVI) with several years of postgraduate study in neuromuscular dentistry, so EMFACE is delivered as part of a real diagnosis — not run as a standalone menu item.
At a med spa
The device is applied, but no one evaluates your bite, your joint, or which muscles are overworked — so EMFACE is used blind to the cause of your TMJ symptoms.
With Dr. Kate (neuromuscular dentist)
Your bite and jaw muscles are assessed first — with tools like T-Scan and EMG — so EMFACE is aimed at the muscles actually driving your pain, alongside the rest of your TMJ plan.
How does EMFACE help TMJ dysfunction?
EMFACE treats the jaw muscles directly, using two synchronized technologies at once — needle-free, with no downtime.
HIFES — re-educates the muscle
Radiofrequency — supports circulation
For many people, calmer jaw muscles mean less clenching, less tension, and easier movement. Because every jaw is different, Dr. Kate will give you an honest, individualized sense of whether EMFACE is likely to help in your case.
Do your symptoms point to your jaw?
A quick, private checklist of signs commonly associated with TMD — educational only, not a diagnosis, and nothing you enter is saved or sent.
This symptom checker is for general education only and is NOT a medical diagnosis. Many conditions can cause similar symptoms. It does not store or send your answers. If you are in pain or concerned, please see a qualified professional for a proper evaluation.

Common questions about EMFACE for TMJ
Straight answers on the FDA clearance, how it works, cost, and why the provider matters.
- Yes. As of August 2025, EMFACE is FDA-cleared for the treatment of TMJ dysfunction and associated pain. It is a needle-free, non-surgical treatment that uses synchronized radiofrequency and HIFES muscle stimulation to work on the jaw muscles.
- EMFACE is FDA-cleared for relief of symptoms associated with muscle spasm, treatment of TMJ dysfunction and associated pain, muscle re-education, increased local blood flow, and the maintenance or improvement of mandibular range of motion. In practice, that means it can help relax and retrain the overworked jaw muscles that drive much of TMJ discomfort.
- TMJ dysfunction is a bite-and-muscle problem, not a skin problem. Dr. Kate is an LVI Fellow with years of postgraduate training in neuromuscular dentistry — she diagnoses why your jaw muscles are strained and where, then uses EMFACE as one part of a plan. A med spa can run the device, but it cannot evaluate your bite, your joint, or the muscles the way a neuromuscular dentist can.
- Sessions are comfortable and needle-free, usually around 20 minutes, with no required downtime — most people return to their day right away. A short series is typical; we confirm the plan that fits your case at your consultation.
- Not necessarily. EMFACE is one option on a full treatment ladder that can also include bite evaluation (T-Scan), muscle assessment (EMG), orthotics, and other conservative care. Dr. Kate recommends EMFACE when it genuinely fits — alongside or instead of other options — and will tell you honestly if it is not the right choice for you.
- It can. The same treatment that is FDA-cleared for TMJ dysfunction also tones and lifts the face by treating skin and muscle together. Many patients value that a single, needle-free treatment can support both how their jaw feels and how they look — though results are individual and build gradually.
- Cost depends on your treatment plan and the number of sessions in your series, so we give a personalized estimate at your consultation. TMJ care can sometimes be billed medically or dentally depending on your situation; our practice also offers payment plans, and we review your options clearly up front.
