EMFACE for Jowls and a Softening Jawline
A softening jawline and early jowls are among the most common reasons people ask about EMFACE. It addresses the jawline and under-chin by toning muscle and stimulating skin, which can help early-to-moderate changes. For significant jowls or loose skin, though, it is not a substitute for surgery — and an honest provider will tell you which applies.
Can EMFACE help with jowls?
EMFACE targets the jawline and under-chin (via the Submentum applicator), using HIFES to tone muscle and radiofrequency to stimulate the skin. For early-to-moderate softening, that can support a firmer, more defined jawline. For pronounced jowls or a lot of loose skin, it is not a surgical substitute.
The distinction matters. "Jowls" covers a wide range — from a slight softening of the jawline to significant sagging. EMFACE lives at the earlier end of that range; the more advanced the laxity, the less a non-invasive treatment will satisfy you.
Why does the jawline soften with age?
The lower face changes for several reasons at once: skin loses firmness and elasticity, the support muscles lose tone, and volume and bone structure shift over time. Because more than one layer is involved, a treatment that addresses both skin and muscle is well matched to early changes.
That two-layer logic is exactly what EMFACE is built around — see how EMFACE works. It will not replace lost volume or remove excess skin, but it can tone what is there.
What can I realistically expect?
Expect a subtle, gradual improvement in firmness and definition over about three months, not a dramatic lift. Results are individual and were measured in studies to three months. If you are hoping to erase established jowls, EMFACE will likely underwhelm — and we would rather set that expectation up front.
For significant sagging, a surgical facelift is the honest comparison. Some people use EMFACE to maintain a refreshed jawline for years and consider surgery later; others need surgery sooner. It depends on where you are starting.
Is EMFACE or surgery right for my jawline?
The deciding factor is the degree of change. Early softening points toward EMFACE; significant jowls and loose skin point toward surgery. A candid candidacy assessment is the fastest way to know which category you are in — and a good provider will tell you plainly.
If a provider promises EMFACE will remove established jowls, be skeptical. It tones and refreshes early-to-moderate changes; it does not do the job of a facelift. Honesty about that is part of good care.
Frequently asked questions
- EMFACE can help early-to-moderate softening of the jawline by toning muscle and stimulating skin. It will not remove established jowls or loose skin — that is a surgical concern. The right expectation depends on how advanced your changes are.
- EMFACE has a dedicated under-chin applicator (Submentum) that addresses the muscle, skin, and appearance of that area. It can support a firmer under-chin for early-to-moderate changes, though results are gradual and individual.
- A facelift surgically removes excess skin and repositions tissue for significant jowls, with lasting results and real recovery. EMFACE is non-invasive and addresses early-to-moderate softening only. They suit different degrees of change, not the same one.
- Results build gradually, with peak measured improvement around three months in studies. If your changes are early-to-moderate, you may notice a subtly firmer, more defined jawline over that period. Maintenance is typically part of the plan.
